How to Avoid Duplicate Jobs on Indeed
Overview
Indeed expects each real job opportunity to appear only once on its platform. Posting the same role more than once, or repeatedly creating new copies to refresh visibility, can cause a job to be hidden, shown lower in search, removed, or require sponsorship.
What counts as a duplicate
A duplicate is not simply the same title at more than one location. If a real role is open at several locations, Indeed says to post it once per location.
The concern is multiple listings for the same opportunity—for example, an active job and a copied version of that same job with the same pay, location, duties, and application path.
Best practices in Team Engine
- Update the existing job. Do not create a new copy just to refresh an open role.
- Use one live job per role and location. Before posting, check whether that opportunity is already active.
- Post one job per location when the same role is truly open at multiple locations. Make sure each listing accurately reflects that location.
- Close or archive the old job when the role is filled. Do not leave inactive positions live.
- Only reopen a role when it genuinely closed and later became available again.
- Do not manage parallel copies from Team Engine and Indeed. If Team Engine is your distribution source, make job changes in Team Engine.
What to check before creating a new job
Ask these questions first:
- Is this role already open in Team Engine for this location?
- Is an older version still active on Indeed?
- Is this truly a new opening, or should we update the existing job?
- Does this job have a clear, accurate title, pay, location, and duties that distinguish it from another opening?
If a job is flagged as a duplicate
- Review your active and recently closed jobs in Team Engine.
- Look for a second live or recently posted version of the same role and location.
- Update the original job rather than creating another copy.
- Log in to your Indeed Employer Dashboard to review the flag.
- Contact Indeed Employer Support if you believe the job was flagged in error.
What can happen if duplicates continue
Indeed may hide a job, show it lower in search results, prevent it from being posted, require sponsorship, or restrict access to organic visibility for repeated or serious issues.
