Common Questions About Employee Messaging

Team Engine’s messaging tools make it easy to communicate with employees through text and email. Below are answers to some of the most common questions about employee messaging, announcements, responses, and phone number compatibility.

  1. What phone number do messages come from?

Team Engine uses:

  • One phone number for employee messages and announcements
  • One phone number for surveys

You can view these phone numbers at the top of the Directory and Surveys tabs.

  1. How do employees know who is texting them?
  • We recommend sending an initial announcement introducing yourself and including your company name so employees recognize the number. You can also send employees a contact card, which allows them to save the messaging number to their contacts with one click. Future messages will continue to come from the same number.

  1. If someone opted out of texts, how do they opt back in?
  • Employees can re-enable text messages by replying to the messaging number with any of the following keywords: "START",  "UNSTOP" ,  "YES" ,  "SUBSCRIBE"

Once they send one of these responses, they will begin receiving messages again.

  1. How does texting work?
  • The Inbox is designed to feel similar to other texting platforms you already use:

Your messages appear in purple/blue

Employee messages appear in gray

If you are signed up for notifications, you will also receive an email whenever a new employee message comes in.

  1. Are responses to announcements visible to all recipients?
  • No. Responses to announcements are private. When you send a message to a group of employees and someone replies, that response is only sent to you. The conversation then becomes a one-on-one conversation between you and that employee.

  1. Phone Number Type Checking — What is it?

Team Engine automatically checks the line type of phone numbers before sending messages to contacts. This feature helps prevent failed messages by identifying whether a number can receive text messages before sending.

If a phone number cannot receive texts, Team Engine will automatically fall back to email delivery (if an email address is available).

How does it work?

  • Mobile numbers can receive text messages as usual.
  • Landlines cannot receive text messages. Team Engine will display an indicator before sending.
  • Numbers from services like Twilio or Google Voice can also receive text messages.

This feature helps improve message deliverability and ensures your communications reach employees successfully.
